About the Company
This is a well-funded, Series B Deep Tech AI startup developing autonomous AI agent infrastructure for enterprise and government clients. The company is building foundational agentic AI tooling — including agent memory systems, multi-step reasoning engines, and real-time agent orchestration platforms — that power mission-critical automation at scale. The team comprises ex-Google DeepMind, OpenAI, and Anthropic engineers. Compensation is top-of-market with meaningful equity.
Role Overview
As a Principal AI Engineer in Agentic Systems, you will be the most senior individual contributor on the engineering team. You will own the full architecture and implementation of the company’s flagship agentic AI platform — from agent memory stores to multi-step reasoning pipelines and tool-use frameworks. This is a founding-team-level opportunity at a company positioned to become critical infrastructure for the Agentic AI era.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end architecture, design, and implementation of the company’s core agentic AI platform
Design advanced agent memory systems — episodic, semantic, and procedural memory — for persistent autonomous agents
Build multi-step reasoning and planning engines using Chain-of-Thought, Tree-of-Thought, and ReAct patterns
Develop robust tool-use and API integration frameworks that allow agents to operate within complex enterprise systems
Architect agent evaluation infrastructure including sandboxed testing environments, benchmark suites, and performance dashboards
Establish engineering best practices, code review standards, and deployment pipelines for the AI engineering team
Collaborate directly with the CTO and founders on technical product strategy and roadmap prioritization
Stay closely connected to cutting-edge agentic AI research (AutoGPT, Voyager, RLHF, constitutional AI) and translate findings into product features
Play a key role in recruiting and technically evaluating new AI engineering hires
Required Skills & Qualifications
8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years focused on LLMs and AI agent systems
Expert-level Python; experience with LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, or custom agent frameworks
Deep knowledge of multi-agent orchestration, tool-use, memory architecture, and agent planning
Experience with large-scale distributed systems and high-throughput AI inference
Track record of shipping production AI systems at scale
Strong written communication and ability to influence technical direction across the organization
